The Facts And Lies Behind The Sunless Tanning Systems

By Haywood Hunter

There has been many questions asked and none understood about the facts behind the sunless tanning systems. This subject matter can become misunderstood quickly through rumor and word of mouth between people. Those that are considering it for the first time often have worries based on wrong information. This article will look at some of these and help tell the truth and facts to what is consider sunless tan.

One of the myths of these methods is that all of these systems use chemicals, inks, or dyes to color your skin. This is far from the truth. Actually, you can use perfectly natural supplements that are found in vegetables and fruits called beta-carotene. These react naturally to yellow pigment found in the blood and surface of the skin to actually give a bronze to orange color. Going on a diet of this can help darken your skin.

The next myth to debunk is the use of spray based booths. This type of sunless tan uses dihydroxyacetone (DHA) as an agent to react to the Amino acids on your skin. This causes a darkening reaction in the dead layer of skin. DHA is not an ink or a dye and will only darken the skin for a temporary amount of time.

Bronzing agents are another temporary agent that is applied to the skin to deepen the color. This type of agent comes in sprays or gels that will only last about a day and can be easily washed off with soap and water. This is intended to work well with the spray based tanning system to cover up imperfections, much like the function of makeup.

Many of these tanning methods work to darken the skin, but what many do not know is that it does not help protect from the sun. You may get a deep bronze color or look, but the only protection from the sun's UV rays is putting on sun screen with a high SPF. If you do not wear sunblock and go out and expose yourself in the sun, you will get sunburned.

These are just some of the facts behind the sunless tanning systems. They work well on darkening your skin either by lotion, spray or even natural supplements found in fruits and vegetables. All of these methods work to darken your skin, but fair warning, none of these will help protect you from the UV rays of the sun. If you do not wear sunblock no matter what, you can get sunburned when exposed.
